AAFD at The Strip

Last Saturday night, August 21st, at LasVegas Motor Speedway there was a AAFD match race. We had four cars come out for some night racing, they included Bill Dunlap driving Bob Richardson's Circuit Breaker, Mike McLennan in Mike Fuller's Forever Young Fueler, Rick White in the Neal & White CNC -Autopower Machine and Brendan Murry's Running Wild dragster.

This event was the Back To School Bash and included Pro Drift Cars, Monster Trucks, Jet Cars and last but not least Front Engine Top Fuel Dragsters. With 12,000 screaming fans in the stands the AAFD cars blasted down the quarter mile. The fans were treated to a dose of nitro and some huge header flames. A strong bracket program also ran with an import car show as well.

The first pair of Top Fuel was Rick White and Mike McLennan both hit the throttle with big flames to the stripe. Rick White went 6.13 at only 210 mph as Mike McLennan ran a 6.39 at 215 mph. Next up was Bill Dunlap in Circuit Breaker, and Brendan Murry's Running Wild. Murry left first, but smoked the tires at 60'. He pedaled it and takes the lead, still smoking the tires he clicked it early. Bill Dunlap charged guardrail to guardrail when the car got off track in the marbles. Dunlap finished with a 6.52 at 212 mph, and Murry trailed with a 7.00 198 mph and the fans went wild!

1 hour and 49 minutes later they were ready to run again. After jet cars, monster trucks, bikini girls, and drift cars it was time for a second round of AA/Fuel action. Rick White runs Bill Dunlap and everyone switches lanes, just to mix it up.

Rick White was out first and never looked back. The Neal & White Dragster runs a 6.17 to Dunlaps trailing, but planned early shut off 6.43 at 200 mph. Out next was Brendan Murry in the lone Chevy car against Forever Young. Both cars did long smokey burnouts and backed up slowly, with the sound of 6,000 ground pounding horses waiting to be unleached on the pavement! Murry staged first, then McLennan pulled in. Murry bumps in deep, at the yellow they're both off. Murry has a hole shot with a 6.32 at only 210mph as McLennan shakes the tires and runs a 6.70.

Next stop for the AAFD dragsters is the Governor's Cup at Sacramento Raceway on September 25th. Then it is off to the California Hot Rod Reunion for the last points race of the season. CHRR will be held on October 15-17 at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.
